AlphaPolis Expands into Anime Production with White Fox Acquisition

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its ability to adapt intellectual properties (IP) into high-quality animated content, Japanese publisher AlphaPolis has acquired 100% of shares in anime production studio White Fox, making it a wholly owned subsidiary. The acquisition, announced on July 31, marks a major milestone in AlphaPolis' broader ambition to expand its media mix strategy and solidify its position in the rapidly evolving anime industry. Strategic Synergy: Publishing Meets Production AlphaPolis, known for its digital-first publishing model, has built a diverse portfolio of successful web novels and manga, many of which have already been adapted into anime, such as Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate) and Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu (Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy). With this acquisition, the company takes a decisive step toward vertically integrating anime production into its business model. By bringing White Fox under its corporate umbrella, AlphaPolis aims to accelerate the animation of its IP library and maintain greater creative and production control. White Fox, established in 2007, has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality animation with titles such as Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World), Steins;Gate, and Goblin Slayer. The studio is respected for its technical expertise and consistent production standards, which have garnered recognition both domestically and internationally. Responding to Market Realities The acquisition comes at a time of continued growth in the global anime market, which now exceeds 3 trillion yen (approximately US$20 billion) in annual value. At the same time, the industry faces a shortage of highly skilled animators and experienced production teams. By securing White Fox's talent and infrastructure, AlphaPolis is positioning itself to mitigate external production bottlenecks while building in-house capacity for sustained content development. According to the announcement, AlphaPolis expects the acquisition to accelerate the pace of IP adaptation, expand its audience reach, especially in overseas markets, and enhance both brand visibility and content quality. These factors are considered central to the company's medium-term growth strategy, which designates anime business expansion as a key pillar. Financial and Operational Outlook While the purchase price remains undisclosed, AlphaPolis stated that White Fox will be consolidated into its group structure beginning in the second quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2026. Initially, only White Fox's balance sheet will be included in the company's consolidated accounts, with full profit-and-loss integration expected by the third quarter. The publisher noted that earnings projections reflecting White Fox's contribution are still under review and will be announced when finalized. In the meantime, AlphaPolis reiterated its commitment to strengthening both its publishing operations and broader media business portfolio in pursuit of enhanced corporate value.
